The Economics team at Amazon works with senior management on key business problems faced in retail, international retail, cloud computing, third party merchants, search, Kindle and operations. Amazon economists apply the frontier of economic thinking to market design, pricing, forecasting, online advertising and other areas.

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will collaborate with economists, research scientists and SDEs across the company to develop, test, and deploy services that implement a wide range of econometric models. This requires the use of sophisticated distributed systems, application of advanced statistical techniques and the processing of Big Data. A successful candidate will have a passion for innovation, interest in cutting-edge technology, and excitement about working in a high-impact domain.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related technical discipline or equivalent experience
  • 5-10 years of professional software development experience
  • Strong Computer Science fundamentals in object-oriented design, data structures, algorithm design, problem solving and complexity analysis
  • Proficiency in one or more modern programming languages such as Java, C#, C++, Python
  • Familiarity with professional software engineering practices and best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations

  • Experience building complex software systems that have been successfully delivered to customers and had high impact
  • Experience with Hadoop, MapReduce, Spark, Cassandra or other Big Data processing platforms
  • Knowledge of one or more of the following areas: econometrics, statistical modeling, machine learning, data mining
  • Database design experience (SQL/NoSQL)
  • Broad ability to take a project from scoping requirements through launch and operations of the project
