Data Scientist Residency (IDEO New York)
What’s a Data Scientist Residency?
We’re seeking a Data Scientist to join IDEO New York’s office for a 3 month, full immersion residency starting in October 2015. During your residency, you’ll work closely with both our design teams on client-facing projects and with our internal groups to understand IDEO better. You’ll be helping us push our edges on how we use and interpret data, how we make data visualization interesting and playful, and how we gather and bring data into our design and strategies.
So who do we think this is? You’re a cross between John Nash and Jackson Pollock, bringing a unique blend of science and artistry to your work. You laugh in the face of messy data sets and can transform them into a usable format without breaking a sweat. You know how to ask the right questions to turn your data into meaning, insight and actions. You not only know how to draw conclusions from data, but can transform quantitative findings into impactful stories and illustrate ah-ha moments to a variety of audiences.
Once you're here...
Within our client-facing project teams, you will:
- Work across diverse industries with multidisciplinary teams, including many types of designers whose specialties range from Interaction to Design Research to Environments
- Advise on structuring and conducting quantitative and qualitative user research and lead teams through analysis of data
- Coach teams on methods, timing and resource requirements of quantitative studies
- Translate data into a visual language to make them accessible to designers and our clients
- Clearly communicate insights to clients using storytelling techniques to generate empathy and instill confidence
Within our internal teams like Global Talent, you will:
- Help us select data that will have the most value for learning more about ourselves
- Advise on ways to collect and report on internal data that fits wells within the context of our unique culture
- Review and analyze our data from many angles and recommends ways to apply the data
- Sift through our existing data, supporting the discovery of previously hidden insights
